My students need color pencils, a wall pencil sharpener and some construction paper to work on basic and complex projects. We will use these materials all year!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Art is a powerful and empowering tool for personal and social change. Help our young people get out of cycles of poverty and violence.
Color pencils are associated with "coloring" in work books. By using high quality pencils students can learn how versatile these materials really are!
My students come from low income families, most are English learners, low income and new immigrants.
They are very creative but they also carry a lot of trauma because of the gang impacted neighborhoods where they live.
These students will be the first in their families to go to college.
Our little charter school has had an art program for just one year and we lack basic materials. We are slowly building a set of basics so that they can be used year after year.
My Project
We are currently using cheap Crayola color pencils that work fine but limit us in the amount of techniques we can use and the level of sophistication my students can produce.
We are requesting a set of watercolor pencils and a pencil sharpener that can be mounted on the wall. The bulk of the pencils will be of a greater quality than what we have. We are also requesting some basic construction paper for our Dia de Los Muertos unit.
This year we had two design units and the students were able to create cars, cities and fashion designs using the cheap pencils.
Because these materials will last a long time, it is a great investment.
We will take care of them and put them to good use!
My students are so talented! They deserve the best!
Our art budget is tiny and we try to use recycled materials as much as we can.
However there are some basic materials that I can not find at our re-use center or goodwill. Color blending, shading and composition design need good materials.
