This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of a room full of 32 energetic, passionate and hardworking third graders. My school is a Title 1 school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. Many of my students come from houses with multiple families living in them, just so they can afford to live in the bay area. Our school consists of over 75% who qualify for free or reduced lunch. We also have a high population of students who are English Language Learners.

Despite coming from some of the toughest backgrounds that I can't even fathom, they walk through my door eager to learn every day.

I like to be that first face they see each morning with a huge smile that tells them they are somebody, they are safe and loved. I will do whatever I can to provide them with great learning experiences each and every day.

My Project

Third grade is such a tough year. They are transitioning from lower elementary to upper elementary. They are also taking the state test for the first time. Kids still need to be kids. They need to be creative and feel artistic. We would use our art supplies to enhance our drawings and create pieces of art that they can be proud of.

I believe in tapping into students’ interests and passions will help them become better learners.

These art supplies will help me with that. My students will have access to the art materials they will need to foster their artistic side.
