Color Our World: Printer for Special Needs PreK / K Class

My students need an HP wireless color printer to print our work from our classroom iPads and to improve communication abilities.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Taylor's classroom raised $400

My Students

Our current black & white printer is old and becoming increasingly unreliable. With current budget cuts, it's not likely that it will be replaced quickly (if at all) when it finally gives out, & it would be wonderful if we had the option to scan or print in color when needed using a wireless device.

My early childhood special education students have been identified as having developmental delays.

Some students this year are additionally English Language Learners. Several of my students have also been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, including Asperger's Syndrome. Their disabilities vary widely and impact their ability to learn, communicate with others, and develop social relationships. They attend a public elementary school and range in age from 2-6 years old. My students are so eager to learn and are excited about coming to school. Our Title One school is located in a high-poverty neighborhood, and 77.6% of our students are identified as economically disadvantaged. For some of our students, our school building is the only safe haven they know from the crime and domestic violence that takes place in the community. Many of these families struggle day to day to provide just the essentials like housing and food.

My Project

Our world is a colorful place, and our printer should be able to demonstrate that, too! As a classroom of students with special needs, some of whom are non-verbal, we rely on being able to print visuals such as picture schedules, communication boards, Boardmaker and PECS pictures, parent letters, etc. This printer will give the ability to do all that and more. The HP printer that we are requesting also has the capacity to scan and copy. This printer is also wireless, and will allow us to print student work directly from our class iPads that were recently funded by our generous friends at Donorschoose.org.

Having a multi-function color printer and scanner will positively affect my student's abilities to communicate and allow us to take advantage of modern technology for learning.

I consider the ability to print so my students can communicate their needs to be a necessity. We truly appreciate the support to our classroom request, and thank you for considering our project.
