My Students

My students are an increasingly diversified group of learners at a Title I-funded school in Washington, DC. They are a creative and fun-loving group of children who benefit from our whole-child approach in an arts integration learning environment. When we foster a sense of belonging, significance, and fun for each of them, we help to co-create the conditions under which they take charge of their own narratives.

My Project

My students love the arts integration approach to learning! This teaching-learning model opens up a variety of access points into content through which children may construct their own meaning or multiple meanings about the things they are studying. It also helps them to connect to the social emotional learning they engage with at school, and creates an outlet through which they can explore their own and others emotions safely and productively.

Children can take charge of their own personal narratives through creativity.

These moments of creativity are not restricted to just the hours of the school day either. We want them to have the opportunity to be creative at home as well. Prior to the pandemic, students were able to borrow shared supplies to take home. This is more challenging now because each student needs their own supplies for health reasons. This project will help us to start getting supplies into homes where they can remain, and enrich personal learning just as significantly as sending home books or academic supplies. Help us help our students color their worlds?
