This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a high poverty school. Most of my students did not attend preschool and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of these children are English language learners, so while they are learning the essential basic skills for their educational foundation, they are also learning a new language!

My students generally come to me with little or no prior experience with using academic tools such as pencils or crayons.

They make incredible gains in this one short year of school. They are absolutely amazing kids!

My Project

My students love to engage in learning when it is fun, bright and colorful. I am requesting large crayons (great for little hands), twist-up crayons, and several boxes of markers.

Little learners love to add color to their creations!

Having these basic supplies ensures that my students will have daily opportunities to express themselves creatively and learn to add lots of details to their illustrations. We use crayons and markers every day throughout the day. The students especially love to use markers in the writing center and this simple addition greatly increases the amount they write!
