This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a Title 1 school in Southern Arizona, my students come from low-income/high poverty homes. Many of my students do not have the extra funds for specialized school supplies. Despite these challeneges I have the privilege of working with some wonderful children who are eager to explore the world beyond our community.

Providing my art students with a meaningful and rich art experience is one of my paramount goals.

Many of my students have never had an art experience that extends beyond the same basic materials they used in kindergarten; crayons, colored pencils and markers. Having access to variety of artistic mediums will provide them with an exciting and authentic art enrichment experience. During the first few weeks of school I introduce students to the principles and elements of art as well as color theory. Nothing makes the magic of color theory come alive like doing tie dye in the classroom! By having a tie-dye experience as the culminating hands on activity, they will be able to reinforce what they have learned, develop critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as explore the magic that is the world of color!

My Project

If my project is fully funded I will be able to provide my students with an enriching hands on experience in understanding color theory. Nothing brings color theory alive quite like a tie-dye activity! My students will be able to make meaningful connections between theory and practice.

For many of my students this will be their first experience using specialized art materials beyond crayons, pencils and markers.

I believe this will be an art experience they will never forget! Please help me provide my students with an authentic learning experience and make this project a reality. Thank you very much.
