My Students

We live in world of color and technology but our school does not have one color printer!

I am a visual art teacher in a Title I, inner city, bilingual public school grades Pre-K through grade 8.

We are culturally diverse, and the arts play a big part in my students' lives. My students are up to date with social media and digital manipulation, but we are unable to execute lessons where I can incorporate these skills because of our lack of technology. We have an incredibly supportive administration, but we are in a constant battle with the yearly budget for supplies. My students have a love and appreciation for the arts and they deserve to have all the opportunities that other students have in other schools that don't have the same budget constraints.

My Project

When our school was first built, the art room was furnished with a state of the art printer. Unfortunately, ink for that printer was replaced once, when there was funding, and we haven't been able to afford ink for it in the last 8 years. In those 8 years, the printer has become obsolete and unusable. With today's social media, photography and digital photos have become a huge part of my students' lives. I am in the constant pursuit of creating lesson plans that grab their interest and inspire a love of art. I don't have a projector, tablet or smart board in my room, so when I need to show students master works of art, I have to have them squeezed behind my desk to view it on a tiny, antiquated computer monitor. With this printer, I will be able to print and laminate art works that will be used for years to come! Students will now have the opportunity to create digital art work, which can be printed and displayed.

My students are creative, inspiring, and worth it!

We have never visited the computer lab because we can't print anything in color. We have missed out on many learning opportunities because we didn't have a hard copy of a print or a way to bring a piece to completion. Please help us get into the 21st century with a printer that is capable of printing large art work and replacement ink!
