This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One way to do this is through technology.

My students live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood.

To qualify for Pre-Kindergarten, my students must come from a lower income bracket or speak another language other than English. Many of our parents are from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. The children come happy and eager to learn through play. Our schools tries very hard to provide the materials needed to enable our children to succeed. Due to cuts in the budget, this has proved to be quite challenging. Many of these games and mateirals will help make my classroom an exciting place to be.

My Project

I need a color printer in order to print out pictures and anchor charts for my non readers. I will be able to print out games and activities for my differentiate math and science workstations. I need an iPad in order to complete one of my workstations. My students will be able to create a story and illustrate it through the use of the iPad. The color printer will enable the children to print their work. They will be able to take it home to be read with their families, or to be placed in the classroom library. The Pop & Add to 12 and 20, Math Magic Addition Machine and See-Inside Counting Tubes will help to practice skills in one to one correspondence. The STEM Science Station Sink or Float, and Life Cycle Science Viewer will develop skill in exploring water and life cycle properties.

Psychologists have documented that color does more than appeal to the senses.

Color helps us to process and store images more efficiently than black and white scenes, and it helps us to remember better. By printing color anchor charts and visual icons, my young students will become more confident and independent. The manipulatives I have chosen will also make learning more engaging. This in turn will help influence their attitudes towards math and science in the future.
