This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many students start the school year without many of the basic supplies needed within our school. These supplies are essential to their success. Paints, brushes, paper, and other supplies are gone quickly with heavy use. Many students do not have the means to purchase the basic supplies and teacher supply money can only stretch so far.

My students attend middle school in Norwalk, Connecticut with over seventy-five percent of the school is on free or reduced-price lunch.

Norwalk is an urban area with many of my students live below the poverty level and cannot afford even the basic supplies. My students have a higher need for socio-emotional tools to help aid them in coping with school stresses and to become successful in their classes. Our students are creative, innovative, and true consumers of knowledge. My students are excited about learning and thrive when given the supplies to complete assigned tasks.

My Project

I am looking to get more painting and drawing materials to replenish our supplies. Our supplies have steadily become depleted and it is difficult to successfully complete the tasks in class without the materials needed. We are looking to add more paints, paintbrushes, drawing pencils, and paper to use in our classroom. Students have created self-driven projects that serve as their unit assessments and part of their student portfolios. Students are required to make their projects unique, colorful, and appealing to their ideal audience. This is extremely difficult to do without the proper materials. Teachers are given a very limited allowance to purchase supplies. This grant will give us the opportunity to color our world HAPPY!
