Color LaserJet Printer For Student Science Projects

My Project

The items I am requesting will help inspire students to develop and present science projects to their peers and community. Our students will be participating in a school science fair and many projects will benefit from the use of color graphics, color graphs, and color images, as well as the increased opportunities for high interest and high quality project layouts.

The goal of the grant is to facilitate the involvement of all students in a science fair experience.

I feel that our student population, which is made up of a high percentage of underserved and underrepresented students, as well as economically disadvantaged students, would be inspired and motivated if given the opportunity to produce a high-end final project. Currently our school only has black and white printers for student and teacher use. While this may be sufficient for some tasks, presenting science fair projects in color opens the possibilities and outcomes for increased student achievement. Furthermore, creating an official, professional-looking product, will increase the likelihood for students to take the project more seriously.

My students deserve every opportunity to work with and have access to highest quality equipment. Many of our students do not get to work with new equipment which at times means that final products are quickly discarded and not seen as something to be proud of. I hope that by providing students with a new LaserJet printer we will overcome the stigma of working and learning in a lower income school.
