This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a great group of students that are eager to learn! When I announce that it's time to pack up, they all respond with "Already? Can we stay and learn more?" They truly enjoy our time together in the classroom. In our class we constantly work as a team to help each other grow. Every time I say team, my students respond " Go, go, go!" This reminds them that as a team we have to move forward by counting on each other.
I have 26 students full of passion and drive to improve.
Our school is a Title l school located on the side of town that is developing. New homes are being built, which is bringing in families from different parts of the state. We have a diverse combination of students with unique personalities.
My Project
In our classroom we spend the first part of the day in guided reading groups. I am able to meet with each reading group for a good 20 minutes out of our 80 minute reading block. However, while students wait for me they engage independently in reading and word work. I need to be able to effectively organize their independent work to ensure not one minute of instruction is wasted. Therefore, with the help of the color coded bins I am able to provide students a visual of what bins obtain both books and work at their level as well as work that can challenge them.
Having these bins will allow me to focus more on the guided reading group I am working with instead of constantly reminding students what they should or could be working on.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
