Last year, I created a project for the visual arts department at my school to get a color printer. We have run out of color ink cartridges. Students love to be able to create art pieces on the computer, but aren't able to print these images in color.
I teach at a school with a high number of students on free or reduce lunch.
Our budgets keep getting cut for supplies but our expectations remain high. The county and state want us to involve technology in our classroom, but cannot afford to provide basics. I want to do lessons that involve computer programs, but then we cannot print these images after we create them. I love the students that I teach, and I want them to have every means to be successful!
My Project
I like to do lessons that involve computer programs like Photo-shop. Our art world is moving more to the digital side of things, but we don't have the resources to teach our students this side of art. After we create projects on the computer, I have students print their images and then we create those images using different art materials. It is hard for students to learn about color theory or to express their concept or idea when they can't visualize their images, because they are in black and white instead of color. Last year, we were lucky enough to have a Donorschoose project that involved getting a color printer for the visual arts department at the school. We have run out of color ink cartridges for the printer.
We create different works of art on the computer to use when creating fine art, but cannot print these images.
We are now offering an AP course in art, but do not have the supplies for a college level class.
