Color Guard: Making Our Band Sparkle!

Help me give my students replacement rifles, equipment bags and the essentials they need to make our upcoming season the best one ever!

My Project

My color guard group has grown from 7 students to 15 in just one season, as a director, I couldn't be happier. I am expecting a larger group for next year but our equipment can't keep up with our growth. The limited equipment we do have decades old and shows. My kids work extremely hard to make each field show the best one yet; but the lack of equipment and funds to purchase necessary equipment makes it difficult. We live in a very underserved county in West Virginia, and have little resources available for our band and guard. My boosters work extremely hard to raise funds, however most of that money is needed toward travel and general band expenses for the season.

Although we are an award-winning group, judge's comments constantly included the lack of elements (equipment) in our routine.

They will be looking for these missing elements next year, so we have to be prepared. My team will use the gloves for practices and field shows without having to worry about hand injuries from rifle or sabre catches. The rifles will be a replacement of our current ones which are taped together to keep them from falling apart. The sabers are an addition to my team, having them will help grow their spinning and performance skills. My current group would love to go beyond marching season and start a winter guard program, this equipment will help them reach their goal. The bags are needed to keep equipment from getting damaged and to keep organized. The new flag poles will allow us to add variety and color to our show with multiple flags.

Having the needed equipment to put together a great show will build confidence and make the entire band sparkle.
