My students need 10 sets of Application Crunch, a card/board game that simulates the college application process and prepares them for success when they actually apply!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Key's classroom raised $441
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from families who are hoping to see their children be the first to graduate from college. But, if you applied to college, remember how complicated and confusing it was?
Imagine finding your way through all those essays, applications, checklists, fairs, search engines, etc without the help of a parent or family member who has done it before.
Our small, public, personalized arts and technology college-prep high school prepares our young scholars for the college search and application process from the day they enter high school. Many don't have support at home, so we are looking for new and engaging ways to teach the process.
My Project
We currently teach the complicated college search and application process works through lectures, mini-lessons, panels, conferences, etc. But we know our students learn the best by doing...what if they could practice this process by playing a game? Application Crunch is a board/card game specifically developed to "increase the number of low-income youth preparing for, applying to, and finding success in our nation’s 4-year college programs." We will use these games in our advisory classes for 9th-12th graders as a way of teaching and reminding our students of all the important steps they'll have to take to get into college.
Once students arrive at their senior year, it's vital they are knowledgeable and empowered to successfully apply to the colleges of their choice.
If you support us by contributing to the purchase of these games, you will be helping our students make it to college, maybe for the first time in their families' history!
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
