College Ready Graduates Who've Lost Acess to Laptops

Help me give my students access to the technology they need to be college-ready with Chromebooks!

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Hitch's classroom raised $1,970

My Students

Our resilient seniors pushed and persevered to finish their senior year strong -- pandemic and all! Our digital graduation was held on June 15th and we even conducted "drive-by" graduations to drive past houses with signs and horns to celebrate. Our school is fortunate to be a 1:1 school in Philadelphia. Traditionally, our seniors get to keep their Chromebooks once they graduate. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, the district has recently notified us that we must collect all laptops due to demand.

Now our transitioning seniors will have to scramble to prepare for college courses without laptops.

This project will deliver laptops to our students who are most in need, who do not have any other access to technology once their laptops are returned.

With the uncertainty of the pandemic, including what college classes may look like in the fall, this is a chance to offer some consistency and love to our seniors as they transition, and as we continue to try to support them in their next steps!

My Project

Distance learning has not been an easy transition. Yet our seniors continued to push through and made the most of the final months of their high school careers. Our school is in the Northwest section of Philadelphia but as a public school draws students from all over the city. This is only the sixth year the school has existed and we are in the "Innovative Network", which means that we challenge the traditional model of education and try innovative new approaches to best teach and prepare our students.

We push them to become critical thinkers who are passionate, curious, and lifelong learners prepared for the 21st Century.

We are very fortunate to be a 1:1 school. We normally allow seniors to keep their laptops to support them as they pursue their post-secondary plans.

Unfortunately, due to the high demand and lack of funding created by the pandemic, the District has notified us recently that we must get all laptops returned.

This has created a lot of stress and uncertainty for some of our students. This project will support those most in need at a time of great uncertainty as they continue to pursue their plans and dreams for the future.
