Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach third through eighth grade students technology and makerspace. Most of our time together is focusing on coding, designing, and building.
I have begun to introduce them to Amazon's Future Engineer Career Tours, which have been a huge asset to them thinking about potential jobs and careers they could strive to achieve.
However, a crucial step in that direction is considering college, university, or trade school.
Many of my students come from families in which their parents have never graduated high school or attended college. I have always made it a point to discuss with my students career goals, education goals, and college options. I grew up in a home where going to college was an expectation and the conversations about careers, college, and life plans were started in upper elementary and middle school; I want to bring that to my students.
Help to inspire my students to go to college by having pennants displayed all around the classroom for them to see daily and look into those schools as potential fits for them moving forward in their education.
