My students need two desktop computers and two LCD monitors.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Konny's classroom raised $1,143
This project is fully funded
My classroom is set in a semi-rural town in North Carolina. I am part of the Freshmen Academy and teach environmental science and physical science. The students in my class are a very diverse group, racially, socio-economically, and educationally. My goal in the classroom is to make science fun and nurture my students curiosity of their surroundings through scientific exploration.
My students love science because they love the outside world and understanding how the Earth works. They have a lot of prior knowledge in the area of science because they have spent much of their time outdoors. Many have worked the farm, helped family members repair automobiles, or done other hands on science. They just don't have the higher level science experience to prepare themselves for college or for future careers.
Computers are an ever-growing part of the college curriculum as well as the workforce. I would like to start using computers in my classroom in order to give students a better understanding of science and to prepare them for the expectations that colleges will have for them.
My school has a lot of resources for computers. Unfortunately we don't have many computers to adequately implement the resources that we already have. For example, the school has a complete set of Vernier LabPro sensors which are used to graph temperature, pressure, motion, and many other scientific measurements. These are the same tools that I used in my undergraduate science courses. The problem is I don't have any computers in my classroom to put this technology to work.
There are also many free science programs that are available. For example, Phun, which is a physics based game that teaches about the forces that interact in our world. I would like to start taking advantage of these resources in my classroom.
Having two computer and monitors would help my students overcome the lack of technology in the classrooms. They would be able to get hands on experience taking measurements and doing graphical analysis of the labs that we conduct in the classroom.
This would better prepare my students for college level science classes. I truly believe that this will change my students' experience of science and enable them to compete with any other student in their future education.
Your donation will make it possible for my students to change the course of their education. Science will become less lectured and more hands on. By putting a computer in the classroom you will be helping students prepare for their futures which rely more heavily upon being able to use computers
