This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third graders are ambitious and have wonderful goals for the future.

Thinking about and discussing the possibility of college begin at a young age.

My students are excited to participate in the morning announcements and express where they want to attend college and what they want to be.

Each fall, as a school, we observe College Week. Each class adopts and learns about a college, creates a pennant, and then poses for a picture decked out in their college colors. Many of these students will be the first in their family to attend and graduate from college. In a Title I school, almost all of my students are second language learners. Their drive to learn and achieve is amazing.

My students are the face of the United States of America.

Some were born in this country to English speaking parents. Some were born in the United States to Spanish or Vietnamese speaking parents. Others were born in another country and immigrated to the United States. One thing that all of my students have in common is their zest for learning. They are so wonderful in that they don't see the differences between each other.

My Project

These wonderful UCSB T-shirts will inspire my students to become future Gauchos. Many students are unaware of the multitude of colleges available to them for the future. Many of our students will be the first in their families to attend college. Let's keep the momentum up!

Every Friday is College Gear day, imagine seeing a whole class decked out in college t-shirts--it truly is amazing!

Our office is ringed with college pennants. Our cafeteria is decorated with teacher and student made pennants of many colleges. Our library has college logos painted on the outside. Teachers and staff members wear college gear each Friday as well as display college pennants in classrooms. We are promoting higher education for all!
