Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation, and all students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The school is predominately Latino and African American. Thirty percent of the students are English language learners, and some are the first of their families to graduate. Despite all of this, 100% of our graduating seniors are college or career bound.

Our students should have the same opportunities as any other student in the country.They work hard to succeed without letting anything get in their way.

As a community school, each year our graduation rate has increased, and we want to make their learning as meaningful and purposeful as possible.

At the end of last school year, the teachers had the seniors make a running list of things that they need for college, we asked them to update it during the summer if other needs came up that wasn't on the original list. These items are the basics for the college dorms: like plastic drawers, sheet, pillows, and blankets. The teachers would like to have a pick up day where students can come in and get items from the table that they may need for their dorm rooms or wherever else there next step is.
