My Students

"What do I want to be when I grow up?" This is a question we are all asked throughout our lives, but it is most critical for the first time when high school students are trying to prepare for life after they've been handed their diploma. And for each student, that path looks different.

My school has a very diverse population.

Over 70% of the students are on free or reduced lunch, which means we have a large number of characteristically "at risk" students. The school has been going through a restructuring period because of low test scores. Academically our scores and graduation rates are increasing, however our college benchmarks, mainly ACT scores, are remaining stagnant. Improving this is critical for the success of our students. Preparing them for a successful life after graduation is key to helping break the "at risk" cycle.

My Project

My school's mission statement is "Making All Students College and Career Ready, One Wildcat at a Time." The resources I have chosen will help with ACT, SAT, ASVAB, college essay writing, career choice with and without college, personal finances for teenagers, and paying for college. I researched the most reputable companies offering test prep resources (such as Kaplan, Barron's, The Princeton Review, College Board) and selected their most updated materials. My students are longing to know what they need to know to get into the schools and careers of their choice.

Education is the key to success, whatever path you take beyond high school.

Whether the student is entering the workforce, college or a trade school, the resources selected for the library will support my diverse population when they make these critical life decisions.
