College and Career Readiness Project

My students need 36 books, three games including Life, and seven sets of cards that will help prepare them for the future by exposing them to different options for careers.

My Students

Our classroom is filled with students who are excited to learn. They will be taking the PARCC test, which evaluates their readiness for college and careers. We are working on making twentieth century learners who collaborate and create!

My students are a group of diverse learners that are eager to succeed and always think about the future.

Many are already thinking about career and college plans, but aren't quite sure what many jobs entail. They love to explore and see life as an adventure!

My Project

Students will be able to read some books to tell them about careers they may already know and have considered. Students are especially interested in When I Grow Up: A Look at 10 Future Careers for Kids and Career Ideas for Kids Who Like Science. They can "spend a day in the life of a doctor, engineer, etc." Others categorize jobs into ideas for "kids who like art, writing, etc." Some of the cards will ask students questions and provide information on tasks that people perform during their days at work. My students are especially excited to play games like Life that allow them to experience decision making and let them role play in those careers.

My students will either begin to think about their future college and career paths or go further along in their decision making process.

They will become more aware of the things that people around them do and the traits they will need to succeed in the future.
