My students need Chromebooks to be able to keep up in the 21st century! Social media on their phones and outdated textbooks are not enough to teach them what they deserve.

My high schoolers on the south side of Chicago are the best people I have ever known. Without exaggeration or hyperbole, they teach me, every day, what it means to have heart, grit, resilience, and even humor in the face of adversity.
These 14-17 year olds impress me with their dedication to learning, and challenge and inspire me to give them what they deserve.
They rise to my high expectations, find solutions to personal and academic issues, and support one another in learning. In a community that experiences so much trauma, be it poverty or violence, I find myself in awe as they continue to show up and work hard each day.
I love these kids and our school community loves these kids, but we can't always give them what they need. I'm turning to our larger community for help with that!
This year I witnessed my 16 and 17 year old students struggled to type a research paper. They toiled through the rigor of the novel, the analysis, the research, and MLA format; however, it never occurred to me that the act of typing the paper would be a point of stress and anxiety for so many. I realized this was because they do not have access to computers in or out of school, so they've never been taught the basics.
Whether they proceed to college or the workforce, my kids need to be able to compete in a world of technology.
These chromebooks will make an everlasting impact as I use them to provide familiarity with technology. I will ensure that students gain confidence and comfort by using the chromebooks beyond typing papers. They will be used to enhance and extend learning through online discussions, research, shared google documents, and blog writing. Such assignments engage young learners, while preparing them for the reality of our society.
