My students are full of wonder and curiosity. They are constantly exploring the world around them and learning new things every day. Pre-K is all about hands-on learning and my students love to dig in with all their five senses.
My students come from all different types of backgrounds and cultures.
Many of them have little or no experience with the world around them. Their parents have limited resources and are unable to buy them educational toys to help them progress and succeed. Their main experience comes from my classroom and the trips I take them on.
Even after 17 years of teaching it still amazes me as I watch them grow and learn. Pre-K students have an amazing ability to soak in information. The growth in their maturity and learning is so rapid. The more we expose them to, the more they grow. The metamorphosis throughout the year is absolutely the most incredible sight I have ever seen.
My Project
My Pre-K students come from many different backgrounds. They have a lot they want to share. They often have difficulty expressing themselves verbally, but hand them a bunch of collage materials, paint, sand, and other art materials and their imaginations explode.
Creating masterpieces of art work helps them express themselves through a different medium.
This is a stepping stone for them in acquiring a richer and fuller vocabulary. Language acquisition is a huge part of Pre-K. Helping our students to express their needs, wants and thoughts is the main emphasis of the Pre-K learning experience. The first foundational building block to reading and writing.
