I am a veteran 7th and 10th grade World History teacher, but also Academic Decathlon & Academic Pentathlon coach. Many students are struggling emotionally and socially with coming back to school and learning the new normal. Most of our students are also on free and/or reduced-price lunches. I want to do my best to show students how much their work means to me as a teacher and as their coach.
I want to support my students by giving them a welcoming and comfortable environment that will help them do their best in class, so this means getting new student tables.
My students and I need new tables because these ones are cracked, chipped, and scratched so much that cleaning them with a disinfecting wipe has given me many blisters. They are also not necessarily built for high school students. They have a bar underneath the table textbook spaces, but many students hit their knees on the bar because their chairs are too high for the table and they are taller than the table allows. (You can see the tables in my classroom photo, but these were students in the 7th grade and my high school students find them too small).
Thank you in advance for your help with this project. We have so many wonderful devices in the classroom to be up-to-date (Promethean Board, Chromebooks, online textbooks) but to then have students sit at tables that are too old, dirty, and small means that there is something lacking. My students should feel that they have all the support they need. Thank you for helping them!
