My Project

My class is a mix of four students who are autistic. They are both verbal and non verbal and are AMAZING! Despite their disabilities, they come to school everyday with smiles on their faces and excitement in their eyes.

All of my students love learning, but nothing gets them more excited than "Fun FriYAYS".

On Fridays, I turn my classroom into a kitchen. My students enjoy sequencing the steps to different recipes and trying new foods. It is my goal to help them become more independent in their own kitchens.

In addition to being fun, cooking incorporates and reinforces many other learning areas. It includes Science & Healthy Eating, Reading, Math Skills, Social Studies and most importantly, Social Skills.

Cooking also provides a tangible result, which can be enjoyed immediately amongst peers in the classroom. Additionally, recipes can be taken home and shared, in order to reinforce these skills at home and encourage my students to share their experience with family and friends.
