My Students

My lively bunch of 28 students come from different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
Each student has a unique and valuable set of experiences that they contribute to the class. We have worked hard to build bonds with each other and consider our class to be like a family, while our classroom is like a home. Students truly feel safe to be themselves, take risks, and explore.
My Project
My students have recently piloted a reading and writing program that taught them how to be effective communicators and collaborators. We have worked really hard to improve our social and emotional skills such as making eye contact, using positive body language, and taking turns talking. However, it is hard for all students to see each other and participate given our current set up.
Having a carpet that is big enough to fit all students in our large class will help all students feel included.
Right now, only about 9-12 students can fit on our currently ripped rug. Students are patient and don't complain about sitting on the cold, hard floor... but I know they'd like to be more comfortable during read aloud, class meetings, discussions, and independent reading time. Donations will help all students have a place to sit on a carpet that will last for years. Please help us make magic with a new carpet!
