This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I would like to create a sense of belonging for my students. I want my students to want to come to school and feel comfortable. Having this feeling will allow students to embrace new learning, together with their teacher and their peers.
My school has a very collaborative feel.
Teachers are very willing to work together, share ideas, and support each other. This tends to influence our students. In my class, I do my best to allow for collaborative learning, as much as possible. Just as I feel comfortable enough to turn to my colleagues for help, I would like my students to be able to turn to their classmates for help.
My Project
I am requesting a classroom rug, for my classroom. I would like to have my students sit as a group on a classroom rug, in order to create a sense of community. Having the students sit close together with each other, and with the teacher, allows for academic conversations without the distractions of desk materials. Students will gather together for discussions and introduction to new concepts, in all academic areas including math, reading, and writing.
Having a welcoming and comfortable gathering area, will provide an inviting place in the classroom, for students to come together and learn collaboratively.
When students work together to understand new concepts, they will internalize information, and it makes learning more enjoyable.
