My Students
My school is in North Philadelphia and serves students from around the city. Students choose to attend our school because it is a safe and empowering environment.
My students are incredibly talented and hardworking individuals, who want to be successful.
For my students to be successful in life, it is imperative that I teach them reasoning, problem solving, and persistence. To teach these skills, it is necessary that my students improve their communication and collaboration skills. I believe that having tables in my classroom will help me facilitate and encourage the growth of these skills.
My Project
My teaching method encourages constant collaboration and communication among students. I believe that these are essential skills for my students in school and life beyond school.
I want collaboration to be the norm in my classroom.
Currently, my students have desks. Desks separate students and put boundaries that sometimes make it difficult to encourage teamwork. When I ask students to work with their peers, they have to move their personal belongs and desks which takes time and space.
I believe that tables will encourage my students to work together productively, which will promote positive social skills and collaboration among my students.
