This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher, I am always looking for innovative ways to foster collaboration, communication, and critical thinking in my classroom. During the 2024–2025 school year, I experimented with several “Crack the Code” learning activities, and my students loved them! They were highly motivated and eager to be the first to solve the challenge. While I was excited by their enthusiasm, I also knew that using the same format repeatedly could eventually lead to disengagement. This past summer, I attended a math institute where I learned how to implement escape room–style activities using breakout boxes. This approach offers a dynamic way to engage students while reinforcing math content. Twenty-first-century classrooms must diversify instructional delivery to keep learning fresh, relevant, and student-centered.

I am requesting this resource to provide students with a non-digital, hands-on opportunity to collaborate and apply their math knowledge in an exciting and meaningful context.

With the Breakout EDU Digital Subscription + Kit - Digital, I can transform my classroom into an academically focused escape room. Each kit contains lockboxes, multiple locks, invisible ink, UV flashlights, and more. I am requesting two kits so I may collaborate with another teacher on campus. This will allow an entire class to participate at one time as each kit is meant for 10-15 students. The digital component allows teachers to gain access to activity resources. These kits will promote teamwork and critical thinking as students work together to solve a series of educational puzzles in order to unlock the boxes and piece together clues. This resource would help me further cultivate an engaging, interactive learning environment where students are excited to practice essential math skills.
