Music with glockenspiels is vital to elementary education. It teaches skills that students need to succeed, like teamwork, creative thinking, taking risks, and perseverance, just to name a few! These are skills not only vital to educational success, but to life success.
Music is the only universal language in the world.
My students come from highly diverse backgrounds. They speak many different languages. Their life experiences have been vastly different. It can feel overwhelming, especially for students new to the country who lack the means to communicate with anyone at school verbally. With music, they can learn and participate without verbal communication. They can become part of their class community as they learn language skills. All students learn tolerance. They learn how to help each other. They learn that success requires them to work together. This creates a class culture that is conducive to learning and geared for success!
