My Project

My elementary school, in Asheville, NC, is a K-5 Buncombe County school with roughly 500 students of diverse backgrounds. It is a place where we pride ourselves in providing a safe, rigorous, and engaging learning environment for all students. We offer programs such as Caring Schools Community, Dual Immersion, STEM, and multiple after-school clubs. We are a Title I school, and we utilize this funding to provide research-based literacy intervention programs, text material resources, staff development, and to enhance our parental involvement. It is a 100% free lunch school. The STEM Lab is respectfully asking for your help to fund hands-on experiences for our kindergarten and first-grade students. The STEM Lab aims to promote hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, math, and literacy for all students in grades K-5 as well as foster curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking as life-long traits. This project would allow us to add class sets of LEGO STEM Park Challenge Kits to ignite and empower our students in STEM, while also connecting to their literacy units.

Hands-on STEM in elementary school will allow our students to gain skills in sequencing, problem solving, perseverance, as well as math concepts.

These skills will inspire our students to be better writers, mathematicians, engineers, readers, and more! With the addition of these materials, we will be able to excite and inspire our students, improve their skills, and further the lab’s goal of promoting STEM as a viable career option for our awesome students.
