Coding with Osmo Jam After School to Make Music

My students need Osmo Coding Jam, Osmo Coding Duo, storage for the Osmo games that will make them easy to transport and new letter and number tiles that are easy to wash.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second graders from a high poverty school. My students are very inquisitive and love science, math, reading and hands-on and fast-paced projects; however, funds are limited.

I want to encourage my students to explore coding while allowing them to express themselves through music.

My students are high poverty, and many of them have limited access to technology at home. Many times, if they have the technology they don't have access to the resources because it requires internet, which they may not have. I want to give my students the opportunity after school to explore computer coding and create music.

My Project

My project was inspired by Ms. Bilello's First Lego League. Having Osmo Coding Jam, Osmo Coding Duo, storage for the pieces and plastic tiles for Osmo Words and Numbers will allow my students to use Osmo outside of school. Students will be able to use the Osmos after school to create songs with their peers.

Students will be able to use Osmo Coding Jam and Osmo Coding Duo with our current Osmo Coding Awbie to collaborate and make their own music.

At the end of the year, we will hold an after school recital for students to share their music with their families. My students are limited on their availability to coding resources and musical outlets, and these Osmo games will give them access to both.
