Coding Skills With Sphero Indi

My Project

Last year I brought a Sphero Indi and a few Ozobot Evo robots into my two kindergarten classes and my two first grade classes as a way to introduce coding. I only had one Sphero Indi, so my students didn’t get much time to use it and explore, but they loved it. They loved the Ozobots, too, but they had a harder time with them because we don’t have enough iPads at my school for the students to program them remotely, and their fine motor skills make it harder for them to make the color codes just the right size by hand. My first graders did better with the Ozobots, but they, too struggled with getting the codes just right.

This year I want to use Sphero Indi robots for my kindergarten and first graders, and I believe having enough for six small groups to use (the one I already have plus the 5 I am requesting here), will make it easier for my students to have more time and access to coding.

Teaching coding skills to my students in kindergarten and first grade allows me to build on those skills in their following years in the classes I teach for the older grades at my school.

We are an entrepreneurial based school. Technology plays a major role in today’s business world, and I want my students to start as early as possible learning skills that can benefit them and our community.
