Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students have always loved the idea of robots and how they exist within our world. Students will often enjoy programming character (sprites) on a web-site simulation but do not always get to create code that guides a real robot in a 3-D environment. I have students that are constantly drawing robots with wheels, lasers, or other dramatic attachments. The creativity of the students is wonderful to witness, especially when it inspires other students to add their own ideas either to the robot or to how the robot's environment may need to change with or because of the robot.

I am requesting a set of Sphero Mini Coding Robot Balls and Legos to create 3-D environments for the Spheros to navigate in.

This particular activity will allow teams of students to examine and create a community environment that will utilize a robot. What will its role be here? How will the robot work in the community? What are the needs of the community?-- Questions like these may be addressed by the students. What I really enjoy is the students' thoughts and questions and solutions that the students will come up with. At the end of the project the students will share their creations and allow other students' communities to visit their community and hopefully share their findings and creations, inspiring and being inspired by others.
