My Students

Science should be fun and science should be challenging. Science must be taught in such a way that students from a lifelong love of the subject matter, and, hopefully, pursue a career in the science field. I teach seventh-grade science at a magnet middle school in a downtown urban area. I have 103 diverse learners who are taught using a hands-on, inquiry-based science curriculum.

My students are diverse.

Our school has many nationalities represented. My students are high achieving and from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered a school of need according to the number of students who qualify financially for free lunch programs.

Some students come to school hungry and are not truly concerned with what we have to teach them because they are overwhelmed by the thoughts of where their next meal may come from. Other students question if we actually have something to teach them that will truly make a difference in their lives. Still others wonder if learning can truly be fun.

My Project

My Science students need these tools in order for us to move to the next level in STEAM education outside of our school day. I have several children interested in coding and I believe the additional kits can help us learn exactly that!

Using the Coding robots, will be the best introduction into coding for my students!

With coding robots, students are imagining and building a myriad of moving, blinking, and buzzing contraptions. The requested littleBits Coding Kit, Lego Boost kit, Sphero Ollie robots will allow even more students to build even more creations through coding anywhere, at home or after school. The Google classroom books will allow my students to plan and decide the type of projects to do with their groups on their coding projects. Safe storage is always a need with electronics. I am requesting a storage and a lockable charging cart for the students to easily charge and keep track of the materials. With your donation, we won't just be buying materials for a one-time Science lab; we'll be providing inspiration to young coders, IT technicians, and engineers for years to come.
