My Project
I hosted a family fun night the other day at school and I borrowed my neighbors bee bots and our Computer Teacher's Colby Mouse Coding system to teach parents and kids about map skills using positional words as well as foundational coding skills through the use of the bee bots. And it was a HIT!!! My room was jam packed with people all night long and seeing the looks on their faces and brains clicking as they were programing the bees and Colby was priceless. Many of the kids that came through my door I knew because they were with me through the pandemic and online when COVID-19 closed all of our schools. To see them working with their families and friends, talking, communicating, and strategizing was amazing. It made me think of what coding could do for my own classroom kids that are still displaying effects of social distancing of COVID-19. I would love nothing more than to see my little ones be able to break through their social emotional shortcoming that are a fallout of COVID 19. Even better, if I can even get one of my kids interested in robots and motivate them to pursue STEM as a career, it would make me cry. I want to empower all of my boys and girls with the power of science, technology, and engineering...but alas the clock struck 6:00pm and it was time to return these bots to their rightful owners. I was thrilled with the success of the night but saddened that I could never afford to buys these for my classroom kids. So I am hoping that you can help me to support them.
