My Students

My students are a diverse group of ambitious and enthusiastic learners from Eastern North Carolina who work hard on a daily basis to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students face many challenges in and out of the classroom. These students come to school eager to learn and ready to put forth their best effort in the classroom.

Our community was left in catastrophic conditions due to the winds, rain, and flooding of Hurricane Florence which made landfall in our little town in September.

Many of our students have been displaced and our school was greatly impacted due to the devastation of this storm which caused us to miss a month of school. Although we are getting back into the swing of things, it has been a long and difficult road.

My Project

The students in my classroom are 1:1 with iPADs. Often times we find it difficult to access content on our devices that require sound due to a lack of proper hearing instruments, in this case, earbuds. It can become very disruptive and distracting to use the iPADs and have the volume at a high enough level that you can hear in a classroom setting without earbuds. Having a pair of earbuds for each student would be a welcomed addition to our classroom. It is also becoming very difficult to access our devices effectively while using just our finger. Our finger just doesn't seem to be able to write responses on documents as well as a stylus would while utilizing our iPADs. It will be helpful to have styluses and earbuds to aid in our learning while utilizing our devices within the classroom setting and total school environment.
