My Students

My elementary school is located in Queen's South Ozone Park and services approximately 1500 students from Pre-K through fifth grade. My students come from culturally diverse backgrounds and low socioeconomic households. In addition to challenging academics, our school is committed to meeting the needs of our students with a vibrant offering of STEAM based programs. My students are eager to learn new ideas and concepts, working hard to meet their goals.

As the school's Technology Teacher, I service classes of differing abilities including self-contained, inclusion, and gifted in my computer lab.

Since children love technology, I am excited to use it in order to reach those students who are otherwise not challenged or motivated to learn. With the right tools, I can see my students feel satisfaction as they achieve and accomplish so much.

My Project

STEAM-based projects will challenge students’ thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as keeping them highly motivated. With our school being mandated for more STEAM integration into all subject areas I realize I need new hands-on activities to get our learning moving forward and up! As one of the school's Technology teachers, I want my students to develop a love of robotics and coding. Children learn best when given a challenge and problem to solve. Children love making things move and having control of the action. Being exposed to this technology will give my students the skills they need to have success in the future.

What better way to fuel my students’ curiosity than with Sphero Bolt and Sphero RVR!

The Sphero BOLT and RVR provide endless opportunities to code while having fun. They will learn learn JavaScript, Scratch & Swift. My students will be introduced to advanced sensors like the gyroscope, accelerometer, light sensor, compass, and infrared communications. With Sphero, they will build robots, and then integrate powerful on-board sensors into their coding creations.

With these kits, I am excited to give my students the chance they deserve. Imagine the satisfaction they will feel when they code their own robots! Students will move from simple coding, to applying advanced sensors. While working in teams, they will develop their technology skills as well as their cooperative learning skills. Being exposed to this technology will give my students the skills they need to have success in the future.
