This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As I transition from teaching first grade to kindergarten next year, I am excited to bring fresh, engaging tools into the classroom that spark curiosity and encourage hands-on learning. One resource I believe would be especially beneficial is the Ozobot—a small, programmable robot that introduces young learners to the fundamentals of coding and problem-solving in an age-appropriate way. I’ve really enjoyed introducing coding to my first graders and currently have a set of coding robots, but Ozobots are especially well-suited for younger learners. With their intuitive color-coding system, they allow even our youngest students to explore sequencing, logic, and cause-and-effect relationships in a fun and developmentally appropriate way. This interactive technology perfectly supports STEM education by blending creativity, collaboration, and computational thinking into meaningful activities.

Introducing Ozobots in a kindergarten classroom promotes critical early learning skills beyond STEM.

As students work together to code paths and solve challenges, they develop important social-emotional skills like communication, teamwork, and perseverance. The visual and tactile nature of drawing code with markers also strengthens fine motor skills and supports learners at varying levels. With my background in first grade and my passion for introducing coding at an early age, I see Ozobots as a perfect addition to my new kindergarten classroom. They will not only make coding accessible and exciting for young learners but also help build a strong foundation for future success in science and technology.
