This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The supplies I am requesting will help me create and implement a biology project for my 5th grade students on the development of offspring, adaptations, genetic traits, and life cycles of chickens. As my students are in a suburban Title I school, very few of them will have the opportunity to experience chickens hatching and growing during their school-aged years. This project will allow me to offer this opportunity to my students.

My goal for this project is for students to have hands-on experience with live animals and the field of biology.

There are many facets to the study of biology that are more accessible and understandable through concrete, hands-on experience. After the chicks have grown, we have a family ready and waiting to adopt them as part of their family farm. I believe that even after their time in the classroom, the chicks should have a safe place to call home.
