Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade at a public charter school in Washington, DC. Two thirds of our students are considered high-poverty students. What is great about our school is that we not only believe ALL children can achieve an excellent education, but that children from diverse backgrounds can get that excellent education under one roof. So our school is about 50% African American, 30% Hispanic, and 20% white.
Our school is very lucky to have a co-teaching model which means that at least two and up to four teachers can be working with students in the room. Right now it is hard for the teachers to find good spaces for the children to work in small groups.
We have a section of our room that is just screaming to be used for more learning, but little bodies are not fond of the hard floor. This carpet would open up the space to be used for learning and would create such a warm and welcoming space.
