My Students
Welcome to our Fantastic First Grade! I teach an amazing group of 6-7 years old children. They are happy, sweet, and eager to learn because they know one day they will change the world.
Almost ninety percent of our school population come from low-income homes but what we lack in money, we make up for in effort, love, and enthusiasm.
My students come from the west side of Chicago and face very real challenges every day, yet come to school full of enthusiasm and pride. Living where they do shouldn't mean a lesser education, and I am here to make sure they reach for the stars.
I have a large, happy, inclusive classroom- which means I am lucky enough to teach excited students with a variety of learning styles and backgrounds; special education and general education combined. Everyday is an opportunity. I want them to be as happy learning as I am to be teaching.
My Project
Our classroom is colorful and busy, crowded and fun! This project will help my students learn to be responsible for their supplies as well as their individual reading levels, while helping us create personal space so that everyone can feel comfortable.
These items may seem small or trivial but they are going to make a huge impact on our daily lives in 106!
My students are all at different reading levels and interested in different topics, with their new bins they can pick out their own books and keep them safe until reading time! That means less wasted time looking for the perfect book to read and more time enjoying the reading! The bins will also dramatically improve the way we store our workbooks and supplies, helping us create a more child-friendly classroom. The stools are going to make a huge difference at the small group tables. Instead of fighting for a spot and getting the chair legs hooked together each time, the stools will allow us to easily move around and find room for everyone.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
