it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Last school year I had the honor of being my students' third-grade literacy teacher. For the 2016-2017 school year, I was granted the gift of being their teacher again.
My students attend a Title I school located in the South Bronx in which 30% live in shelters.
Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own life.
My Project
Today, mostly all children are learning differently in school. A long time ago items, such as iPads, desktops, laptops and computers did not exist within the home nor in the classroom. If one were to walk into the 21st century of today’s classrooms they would observe that not only are computers and tablets within each room but also the creation of these items changed the way we look at literacy. As educators we expect our students to become literate in reading and writing. Furthermore, it also expected that students are to be literate in multimodal elements such as print, graphic design, audio, gesture and non-stop interaction. This rapid change in the 21st century classroom is known as “new literacies.” Apart of this new wave of learning is to have students work with less paper and more with their hands and technology. In order for my classroom to be fully apart of the new technique of learning my students need a scanner.
Having a scanner would not only help to make technology available to my students but it will also support their learning of 21st century skills.
Through your donations I would be able to scan worksheets and post them onto my students' blogging pages and their goggle documents. The world and the demands put onto our students have changed for our students. Therefore, as an educator it is important that I provide my students with the supplies they need to meet these changes. Having scanner can help us reduce our paper usage and enable us to do our part for the environment. Please help this dream become into a reality, every dollar counts!
