My Project
This hands-on project will engage tiny scientists with the Next Generation Science Standards, teaching them about growth, change, and living organisms. By raising hatchlings, students will also learn about the responsibility of providing a safe and healthy environment, including the importance of a safe and properly equipped habitat. The addition of books will support their learning by providing a deeper understanding of how to care for our hatchlings. This project will be an exciting, educational, and memorable experience for the students.
Here are the Common Core Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for kindergarten that my students will learn by raising chickens:
Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of animals and the places they live.
Students will explore the basic needs of animals (such as food, water, and shelter) and understand how these needs are met.

Use observations to describe patterns of what plants need to survive.
Students will identify and describe what animals and plants need in order to grow, survive, and thrive.
These standards support foundational understanding of living organisms' needs and how they interact with their environments, offering a great framework for your chicken hatchling project.
