This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We opened our doors in Fall 2015 in East Oakland and serve a diverse population of students throughout the Bay Area. Our students are mainly from Oakland, but we have some who travel 30+ miles daily to come to our school.

In our past 3 years of operation we have experienced a rise in the number of students who are experiencing homelessness.

The McKinney-Vento Act defines homeless children and youths as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

My Project

This project will allow for us to provide students and families with some basic clothing items and blankets to keep them warm at night. It will also provide families with bags to use for Mobile Food Pantry and be able to take food home.

Did you know that in 2009 in Oakland homeless families with children made up 32% of the overall homeless population in Alameda County?

This is not a new experience for folks in Oakland, the problem is that now with the Sillicon Valley and Tech Companies booming in SF, it is harder for families to remain within the city boundaries. That is why I ask that you consider donating to my project! I know it won't solve the bigger issue at hand, or even give to 20% of the homeless population, but it will make an impact on the students and families I am able to serve every day.
