Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Diamonds in the rough-that's a great way to describe my learners. They are eager to learn and excited about contributing to this world. They aspire to be productive citizens despite the many challenges that they face including being scholars with disabilities, having technology classroom gaps, and many experience socio economic issues. Regardless of the challenges they face -Where there is a will there is a way. These guys have the will. I would like to provide them they way. Let's make it happen.
My Project
In the classroom, students will use the tablets to interact and learn about what exists outside the Bronx. A large part will be learning digital literacy by accessing technology to perform daily assignments online. With the introduction to online learning due to the pandemic students are in need of there own tablets. Students will learn about math and science through videos and interactive lessons that are not possible without technology. Students will learn about financial literacy through online banking, budgeting, and money management. They will learn how to navigate websites and applications that they will need to know how to use post graduation. Our school struggles to be print-rich because of budget cuts and funding shortages, but with the tablets students will be able to access databases of literature. There is one working desktop in my classroom, and it is a daily struggle to share amongst students. Students cannot effectively access activities with just one desktop computer. This makes it almost impossible to use the computer effectively as students cannot be given a significant amount of time to use the computer.
These tablets will allow us to compete with other districts where students have adequate access to technology in the classroom and can access a world outside of the South Bronx.
The emphasis on individual learning plans and pacing is a large part of the reason we need these tablets. In order to differentiate in instruction we need tablets to help that meet the needs of each special needs student. They need to be able to access information at their own pace and learn how to navigate digital materials if they are to be successful in their future.
