My students need notebooks in Algebra Lab. They will be making an interactive notebook that they will be able to use in all of their future math classes.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Who are my students?? My students are children that come from all around the world. Some arrive with just the clothes on their backs and the government assigns them a random birthday for they did not arrive with the proper paperwork from their country. Some of my students have been robbed of their childhood for they are expected to assume adult roles in their homes i.e. caring for younger siblings or obtaining a job to help the family. Some of my students have a tough exterior because they don't want to show they are really hurting inside.
My students have such great potential and don't even realize it.
They can't see beyond their own backyard. I love talking about all of the possibilities that are out there for them.
Last year, I had the pleasure of chaperoning the NYC field trip. I only had three students because they were new to our country and knew little English. What amazing day! Seeing their faces when we took the ferry over to Ellis Island. They experienced so many new things in that one day!! "Oh, the Places You'll Go!!" Dr.Seuss
My Project
My students will be making interactive notebooks that will contain the Rules and Laws of Mathematics. The materials in this project will all be used for their notebooks.
The notebook will help them by being a handy-dandy tool that they can use in class and while completing assignments.
The notebooks will be a way for students to organize notes along with examples to refer to. They will not only be learning about mathematics, they will also be learning how to keep a notebook for a learning tool.
The notebook will contain material that they should have gained in lower grades as long with new material they are presently learning in class. Having this notebook as a reference tool will help close the grade-level gap in their learning.
