My Students

I am an EC teacher who works at a high risk school that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a Pre-K through 5th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of Pre-K through- 5th grade Special Education students. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be! They are trying to catch up with the other students their age and grade level while also trying not to fall further behind.

My Project

The iPad’s and protective cases that I'm requesting will assist in providing strategies for incorporating technology for my special education students in the classroom and the EC office. These materials will help incorporate fun interactive lessons using technology and teach students to better understand math and reading concepts, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, word recognition and communication of ideas with demonstration of knowledge, which will be easy to integration into general ed classes.

Technology will assist with ways to keep track of data information required by school and EC department in accordance with the student's Individual Education Plan.

Technology will allow effective and creative integration strategies that I can use immediately to engage my students in the learning process. Having technology available to my students can help equalizes education for special needs students which helps build confidence and help these students find academic success. Having iPad’s will provide more opportunities for my students with disabilities to learn in alternative ways. It will providing extra support for students in their English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies class, as well as in Reading and Math and provide extra support in the EC lab This will help me develop and implement high-quality instructional strategies, while learning, providing and implementing real-life applications provide to students with opportunities to engage in their process skills through individualize technology instruction.

This allows for students to explore and learn tips on how to navigate social sharing, cyber bullying, and plagiarism to ensure they know how to create a positive digital online presence. With the help of technology and a determined teacher students learn basic operations and concepts, process data and report results, and other applications in compliance with the National Education Technology Standards for Students. These materials will help me give my students a fighting chance with their education.
