Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a district with 99% of minority enrollment, and all of my students are first-year English Language Learners (Newcomers) that were doing very well acquiring English as a second language in the classroom until the abrupt transition to distance learning.

My students are incredibly self-motivated and work hard to grow both socially and academically to be included in our American society by improving their English communication skills.

They are happy to be in high school and work extremely hard to accomplish their daily goals. I love how dedicated my students are to help each other and myself as their new teacher. I'm lucky to be able to work with such a loving and compassionate group of kids.

ELL students need a lot of support to succeed in the classroom. I will be virtually teaching them literacy and English reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills. Most of my students have limited English language skills.

My students have surpassed my expectations and proceed to go above and beyond each and every day. They have worked so hard these pandemic months to set goals and create plans to meet those goals.

My Project

We are requesting a Microsoft Surface laptop, which will provide my students with a simple solution to work all together with his teacher and obtain a wealth of knowledge geared to improve their English communication skills.

Through the use of this Surface laptop, my students will be able to have a better window of learning by taking real-time online language lessons at home.

The RAM capacity and versatility of this tool, used in conjunction with an integrated eBook, will provide them with an authentic assessment experience for WIDA's ACCESS for ELLs®, allowing me to teach every day in real-time. Also, it will allow me to track their performance and progress.

This project will take their learning to a whole new level since technology is a critical component in today's distance learning environment. With the use of multiple ELL websites, games, videos, and apps, I will be able to instill in my students a love for acquiring a new language. My students will be able to practice and experience how a second language is applied in everyday life with interdisciplinary activities.
