Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a low economic area of our school district. I teach Science and love to give my students hands on experiences, but it can be costly. In order to achieve this and have a very positive impact on my students, they are in need of materials. I am asking for donations to help build up our classroom supply of lab materials.

We have been displaced from Hurricane Harvey and most of our equipment has been lost.

This makes it very hard to perform the labs in our curriculum.

After working in this area for over 10 years, I see that many of these children are driven and have aspirations, they just do not always have the proper guidance. I would love to give them experiences that do not come with their everyday living, by having necessary materials in my classroom to give them positive experiences.

My Project

One area of academics that my students struggle in, is science. I am requesting these materials because our school has very limited resources since we have been moved to another school since Hurricane Harvey. What materials we do have were lost or have not been updated in years and are very worn. We will use these materials as lab stations as they align with our curriculum.

The donations will help improve their learning by providing more hands on experiences and not just watching the activities being demonstrated by a video or myself, due to supplies being limited.

With these materials my students will begin to see themselves as true Scientist and bring this area of academics up.

The graduated cylinders will be used to measure volume during our matter lab. The thermometers will be used to read temperatures or liquids. Also, to teach my students how to read a thermometer. The compasses will be used for showing direction during our Earth Science unit. The wires and batteries will help students build circuits, and help them understand the flow of electricity.
